“The greatest breakthroughs come at the intersection of different verticals. That’s the premise of OSIC,” said our Executive Director Elizabeth Estes in a recent video interview with WIRED. “Bringing together radiology, pulmonology, computational science; bringing together academia, industry, philanthropy – that’s where breakthroughs happen, because you learn from people who have different vantage points.
From the very start, OSIC has been committed to collaboration and innovation in the fight against IPF and ILDs. We’ve also been adamant that an open source, patient-centered approach is the key to creating hope and better outcomes in this disease state. “We have a lot of smart, motivated, dedicated people together who want to see these patients have a different path. The technology is there for personalized medicine. The technology is there to make advances in rare disease,” added Estes during the interview. Thank you to our founding members, those who have joined us along the way, and our patient partner groups for their constant support and commitment. And thank you WIRED for highlighting our efforts to make radical progress on behalf of those living with fibrosing lung diseases and their caregivers. We still have work to do, but by continuing to bring together innovative minds from so many different backgrounds, we know we can get there faster. |
